Be kind to everyone. It truly brightens up everyone’s day when you are kind even to people who are not so kind they tend to turn around and surprise you. You never know what someone is going through so it honestly just makes the world and every waking interaction better.

Try something, I was afraid to go to my first job interview ever and immediately was proven it’s not as difficult as I thought it was. Apply and try, it doesn’t hurt!

I wish it came with higher pay.

Advice

Don’t let rude comments from guests get to you. It’s hard because you see them for longer and more often than any other service industry, but try to brush it off. However, report them and kick them out of the hotel if they become abusive. If your management doesn’t support you, get out.

What I liked

I enjoyed shadowing a variety of different departments throughout the hotel. Through this position I was able to volunteer with my coworkers. I sat in and took notes during management meetings. I went on sales calls with the Director of Sales to meet with local accounts.

What I wish was different

I wish that I had been able to shadow upper management more often.

Set clear objectives for your internship experience and express the objectives to upper management.
