Castix is an indie game design company working on developing a medieval fantasy game. We are seeking a Level Design (aka World Building) Intern who is passionate about creating captivating and immersive landscapes and environments. This internship is a project-based opportunity that allows the intern to showcase their creativity and work with a team of dedicated developers and artists.
As a Level Design Intern, you will have the chance to work with our custom client, which was built in the early 2000s. The client allows you to create and edit maps, modify tiles, 2Ds, and over 1500 custom-made 3D objects, as well as work with heightmaps, light sources, and basic particles. The client is very basic in nature, similar to a Windows 2000s version of The Sims. We need an intern who knows how to think creatively and find unique uses for the limited object options.
Responsibilities:
- Designing fantastical environments that fit into a specific world vision
- Assisting with quality assurance testing and related bug fixes
- Collaborating with the development team to ensure the environments are cohesive with the overall game design
- Finding unique uses for the limited object options available in our custom world building software
- Communicating regularly with the development team to ensure progress is being made
Qualifications:
- This role is major/degree agnostic, and we are open to any applicant with the interest to gain experience in this area
- Access to a computer with Windows or Linux OS. Unfortunately our world building software is not currently available on Mac OS.
- A passion for designing fantastical environments that fit into a specific world vision
- Experience with world building tools/software is a plus, but not a requirement
- Ability to learn new programs quickly
- Creative thinking and problem-solving skills
- Attention to detail and ability to work independently as well as part of a team
This is an unpaid internship, but can be done for course credit. The internship is fully remote and interns will need to use their own equipment. The necessary software will be provided. The internship is project-based and timing is negotiable. Interns will be provided a manager/mentor from a senior staff member. The intern will have flexible hours, and may need to communicate with staff members across various time zones.
If you are interested in applying for the World Building Intern position, please send your resume and a brief statement of interest. We look forward to hearing from you!
