General Job Description:
This is government administration work at the trainee level. Employees in this class learn the principles, practices and techniques required to perform management-level work of an assigned City department in a particular specialty area. Employees are selected and assigned based on the educational requirements for the specific position. Employees in this class complete a training program that includes assignment to various duties, attending training sessions, participating in projects and other tasks designed to familiarize them with the operations of city government. Assignments vary in nature and increase in difficulty as the employee gains experience. Work is performed under the direction of a higher level manager.

 

Minimum Requirements: 

EDUCATION:
Completion of a bachelor’s degree program at an accredited college or university with major course work in an academic discipline appropriate to the job assignment.

SPECIALTY — Personnel
MAJOR COURSE WORK IN
Human Resources Administration, Industrial Relations, Personnel Administration, Psychology, Industrial Psychology, Tests and Measurement, Labor Relations, Employment Relations, Legal Studies, Communications, Business Administration, Political Science, Government Administration, Organizational Development/Leadership, or a related area;
OR
Completion of any Bachelor’s Degree program AND current enrollment in a Master’s of Public /Government Administration program or Human Resources and Employment Relations program at an accredited college or university and the completion of 9 credits in the specified Master’s program.

SPECIALTY — All Specialties
MAJOR COURSE WORK IN
Government Administration, Public Administration, or a related area.

NOTE: For the Personnel Specialty only, completion of any Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university and one of the following valid certifications meets the education requirement:

• Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) or a Certified Benefits Professional (CBP) issued by World At Work
• Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) issued by the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans
• Professional in Human Resources (PHR) or Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) by the Human Resources Certification Institute (HRCI)
• Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) by the Society for Human Resources Management
