Duties

The primary purpose of the Security Guard (Dispatcher) is to perform security dispatch duties for the Lower Colorado Dams Office Security Response Force Security Control Center, which provides 24-7 surveillance of a National Critical Infrastructure for early warning and rapid response to any threat.
Duties of the Security Guard (Dispatcher) include:
Monitoring various alarm systems, closed circuit television systems, telephone, and radio networks, relaying messages, maintaining logs, and assisting in dispatching personnel and equipment to meet emergency situations.
Directing the appropriate security personnel to effectively neutralize any threat to the dam(s) or their outlying facilities and switch yards.
Collecting, coordinating, evaluating, and prioritizing routine and emergency information to disseminate to the Supervisory, Security Guard or other response personnel.
Maintaining computer logs, ensuring entries in the log contain all details pertinent to the event and are in order of sequence.
Transmitting and receiving documents and messages electronically using personal computers or workstations that are networked or linked to other computers or workstations.
Interpreting and implementing regulations, directives, and other guides to handle security communications at a large facility.

You must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. National.
You must be suitable for federal employment, determined by a background investigation.

You must maintain a valid State Driver's License at all times as the position requires operation of government vehicles on government and public roads. Failure to maintain a valid State Driver's License at all times will result in removal from the position.
Individuals selected may be subject to working rotating shifts to include swing shift, graveyard shift, holidays, and weekends.

Qualifications

 

To be rated as qualified for this position, the HR Office must be able to determine that you meet the specialized experience requirement - this information must be clearly supported in the resume.

To qualify at the GS-06, you must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to at least the GS-05 level in federal service having demonstrated experience.

Specialized Experience defined as experience working with a Federal, State, municipal, local, or private protective organization that involved the protection of property against such hazards as fire, theft, damage, accident, or trespass; or maintaining order and protecting life. Such experience must have provided a knowledge of protective systems and techniques. Acceptable experience includes service in the Armed Services or Coast Guard that involved the performance of guard duties on a regular or intermittent basis OR experience identifying and analyzing problems utilizing sophisticated communications, fire alert and video systems; appropriately dispatching response forces or firefighters to evolving threats to the facility; effectively communicating with all levels and types of organizations and audiences while assisting Security in maintaining order and protecting life.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Selective Placement Factor: This position requires a current, valid Driver License. Failure to provide proof of such license will cause you to be rated ineligible for this position.
