About the Position:
Under the direction of the Chief, Office of Strategic Safety and Implementation (Supervising Transportation Engineer), the Vulnerable Road User (VRU) Safety Specialist, a Senior Transportation Engineer (Specialist), is responsible for VRU safety initiatives and for the coordination and development of programs, policies, and guidelines for bicyclist and pedestrian safety calming measures.
This position works with internal and external partners to strategically plan and communicate work being performed on VRU safety. This position is responsible for setting the direction and priorities in the expansion of the VRU Safety program, which includes active transportation data analysis, causation analysis, investigations and assessment guidance, coordination with other functional units on effective strategies and countermeasures, standards and specifications, VRU safety project report reviews, and performance evaluation. This position collaborates with other functional units and forms critical partnerships with speed management and the Strategic Highway Safety Plan (SHSP) to incorporate Safe System principles into the VRU Safety Program.
