Associate Engineer Electrical
Associate Engineer – Electrical positions assign work, give instructions, and approve engineering standards, specifications, and designs for the generation, transmission and use of electricity; supervise field inspection to check on compliance with electrical and safety regulations; write electrical and instrumentation and control specifications and contract documents; perform electrical or electronic design work on lighting, communications, and signal systems; prepare sketches, layouts, material lists, and cost estimates; check construction plans for conformance with contract requirements; conduct studies and prepare revisions and amendments to the electrical code; supervise the administration of the electrical code; and perform other duties as assigned.
Associate Engineer – Electrical positions in the Public Utilities Department prepare design scope of work; plan review for electrical/control system drawings for conformance with contract requirements; perform electrical design work for water and wastewater facilities; perform electrical calculations; perform project management duties for power generation and renewable energy projects; and perform other duties as assigned.
NOTES:
Employees in job classifications represented by Municipal Employees Association (MEA) are scheduled to receive the following general wage increases:
- 4% effective 7/1/24
- 2% effective 1/1/25
- 5% effective 7/1/25
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION: You must meet ONE of the following options:
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related engineering field.
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) Certificate issued from a state licensing board.
- Registration as a Professional Electrical Engineer with a state licensing board.
EXPERIENCE: Three years of full-time professional electrical engineering experience which MUST include at least two of the following options:
- Electrical design that includes preparation of design, load calculations, specifications, single line diagram, and Title 24 for residential, commercial, industrial, and all other building projects.
- Electrical plan checking of residential, commercial or industrial buildings for compliance with California Electrical Code, National Electric Code or equivalent.
- Field engineering to inspect and solve complex electrical engineering problems.
- Electrical system design, that includes load calculations and preparation of design specifications for public works projects, water or wastewater treatment facilities.
- Electrical plan checking of traffic signals, flashing beacons, street lighting, airport electrical systems, interconnect systems, sport and park lighting, and fiber optic cable installation and testing.
- Electrical plan checking for public works projects, water or wastewater treatment facilities.
- Management of Instrumentation and Control (I&C) system project to design and implement public works projects, industrial or commercial systems, and/or water or wastewater treatment systems.
- Control Systems or Instrumentation and Control (I&C) design and plan checking for water and/or wastewater treatment facilities.
LICENSE: A valid California Class C Driver License is required at the time of hire.
HIGHLY DESIRABLE:
• Experience in short circuit and/or arc flash analysis.
• Engineer-in-Training (EIT) Certificate issued from a state licensing board.
• Experience in the management of renewable energy and power generation projects.
