Anchorage Museum Maintenance Technician

Summary Position Statement

Under the general supervision of the Deputy Director, Facilities and Operations, the Maintenance Technician is responsible for assisting the facility management team on building maintenance activities. The incumbent will be responsible for completing routine building repairs andmaintenance as well as contractor coordination of larger repairs and modifications. The position also supports Museum programs and events in the form of ensuring that maintenance and janitorial needs are met for the Museum's interface with the public and its partners. The Maintenance Technician will monitor and respond to requests issued through the internal work-request system, conduct routine inspections, and complete preventive maintenance. The Technician is also responsible for soliciting bids at the direction of the Deputy Director, purchasing supplies, and working with subcontractors. This position also provides support to all areas of the Facilities department, including snow shoveling, ice removal , painting, door hardware, moving furniture, assistance with event set up, coordination of contractors, cleaning, changing light bulbs, and completing minor repairs or maintenance on plumbing, electrical, drywall, appliances, furniture, vehicles, tools, and related equipment and shared emergency maintenance response on an after-hours, on-call rotation.


 

This is a full-time position and will have occasional evening and weekend hours.


 

Essential Functions

  • Complete a wide variety of building repairs and maintenance projects
  • Complete daily inspection reports and ensure systems are operating as designed
  • Complete minor plumbing, electrical, and equipment repairs and preventive maintenance as needed
  • Coordination of sub-contractors and verification or work completed as directed
  • Assist with upkeep and maintenance of operating systems, facilities, and grounds, including snow and ice removal duties as required
  • Replace light bulbs, clean up water leaks and overflowed toilets
  • Monitor computerized work-request system daily
  • Manage the physical security, accountability, serviceability, and cleanliness of all maintenance tools, equipment storage areas, and tool bins
  • Practice safety to avoid accidents while accomplishing regular duties and immediately report any violations or potential hazards to the Deputy Director of Facilities and Operations
  • Includes supporting public event needs, which requires some work after normal business hours or an weekends on an as-needed basis


 

Non-Essential Functions

  • Verify the performance of contracted services and notify the Deputy Director of Facilities and Operations of any discrepancies
  • Address scheduling conflicts to the Deputy Director, Facilities and Operations
  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Demonstrated ability to diagnose and make a wide variety of building repairs
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask
  • Demonstrated ability to complete detailed orientated tasks and produce high-quality outcomes
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to be flexible and learn quickly
  • Demonstrated ability to problem solve and manage challenging maintenance issues
  • Demonstrated experience in building maintenance and repair
  • Knowledge of plumbing, electrical, drywall, painting and/or other trade work
  • Ability to work on ladders and scissors lifts up to 40' high while performing duties
  • Demonstrated reliability
  • Must have current driver's license and willingness to drive museum vehicles
  • Ability to respond to occasional after hours or weekend maintenance issues or requests
