Engineering Technician 2 / Transportation Planning

About this Position
This position works for the Transportation Planning Section of Lane County’s Engineering & Construction Services Division. 

The Transportation Planning Section is in charge of working with community stakeholders and agency partners to identify and plan transportation projects, develop and implement short and long-range plans, obtain grant funding to plan and build projects, manage traffic crash data and programs to improve safety, and respond to transportation related issues associated with land development. This section’s work includes an emphasis on reducing transportation-related fatal and serious injury crashes (Towards Zero Deaths). Duties may include, but are not limited to:
  • Performing site investigations to support transportation safety tasks.
  • Monitoring and maintaining transportation data.
  • Creating visually engaging graphics to communicate information about transportation projects and programs.
  • Providing clear oral and written communication about transportation projects and programs.
  • Producing and maintaining website content about transportation projects and programs.
  • Coordinating and supporting public involvement efforts such as organizing project meetings and documenting public comments received.
  • Provide support to Facility and Transportation permitting.

Engineering- Responsibilities for those with engineering related assignments will generally include: assisting with the survey, design and construction of public improvements; collecting and researching data; computer aided drafting; construction inspection; materials testing; managing traffic; and preparing reports.

About the Division - Engineering & Construction Services: 
The Engineering & Construction Services Division responsibilities include planning, designing and constructing safe and efficient transportation systems for Lane County. The Division also provides high quality and comprehensive engineering and construction services to other County Departments and external public agency clients that manage, maintain, and plan public improvement programs and projects. Our mission is to provide these important services for the benefit of citizens, businesses, industries, and visitors to Lane County. 

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Overtime required per operational needs.

Training and Experience:
Associate's degree or two-year technical certificate; and sufficient experience as necessitated by the competency level of the position. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
Journey Level (N4311): 2-5 years of progressively responsible experience related to area of assignment. 
Specialized knowledge specific to area of assignment may be required.

Licensing Requirements: (positions in this class typically require):
Valid Oregon Driver's License

Physical Requirements:
Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work.
Incumbents may be subjected to fumes, dusts, gases, chemicals, extreme temperatures, intense noises and travel.
