Operations Supervisor - Career Development

The Electric Boat Career Development Program is an entry level two year leadership program that combines instructor led, leadership, and trade training. Every successful candidate will have an opportunity to enhance their leadership skills by participating in three multi-month rotations in which participants immerse themselves in the role of an Operations Supervisor. During the rotations and trade training the candidate will also be participating in various leadership programs and a mentoring program to ensure their success and growth. The knowledge and skills that the Career Development Program provides will prepare the selected candidate to be a successful Operations Supervisor and leader in our Groton, CT shipyard or our Quonset Point, RI manufacturing facility. 
 
The successful candidate must provide technical assistance and overall direction to a team of hourly trade employees. Core to this position is the successful performance of the team’s Safety, Quality, Cost, Schedule and Continuous Improvement. Effective communication, leadership, creating a positive team environment with employees and peers is key to success for the selected candidate. This position provides a platform to gain a working knowledge of various manufacturing environments and their relationships with other parts of Electric Boats’ business. This is an excellent opportunity for advancement into a career-building leadership position and gain invaluable experience to support their career development. 
 
Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Lead the activities of approximately 3 to 20 trade employees in the performance of preparing, assembling and installing equipment onboard submarines
  • Primary point of contact to interface with Engineering, Ships' Management, Quality and other trade departments
  • Lead the team to achievement of company goals for Safety, Quality, Cost, Schedule and Process Improvement
  • Take ownership of team performance
  • Assign work, provide technical expertise, instruction, developmental guidance, motivation and performance assessment of your employee(s) while working aboard submarines under construction and repair
  • Lead self-assessment audits, commit to schedules and maintain product quality
  • Attend to various administrative responsibility, such as LMS, Quality documentation, work completion documentation, etc.
  • Must be willing to work all shifts and travel, as required

Qualifications

Required:
  • BS in an Engineering discipline or Construction Management by June 2023
Preferred:
  • Manufacturing, Shipbuilding and Leadership experience
  • Prior Co-Op/Internship experience
  • Less than 5 years experience preferred
  • Knowledge of management tools, i.e. Microsoft Office Suite
