2023 Graduate - Mechanical/Systems Engineer - Sensor Systems

Do you want to become an expert in Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE)?

Are you passionate about ensuring our nation’s security?
If you are graduating with a degree in Mechanical or Systems Engineering and want to work in MBSE, we’d love to have you join our team!

We are seeking a Mechanical/Systems Engineer ready to take on new challenges with us as we continue to grow our capabilities in Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and Digital Engineering (DE). Our team is passionate about crafting pragmatic solutions backed by analytic rigor. We are committed to excellence and strive to cultivate an environment of collaboration, coordination, creativity, and initiative. We value earnest communication, technical effort, and positive attitudes. We help our sponsors develop new radar and sensor systems and embrace the changes necessary to move from a traditional Systems Engineering (SE) mindset into the world of MBSE.

As a Mechanical/Systems Engineer, you will:
  • Support sensor system concept development, including traditional SE tasks such as Requirements Analysis and Functional and Physical Architecture development for complex systems.
  • Perform physics-based modeling in MATLAB/Simulink and similar tools, and successfully integrate these tools together in automated workflows (e.g., “digital thread”).
  • Push the boundaries for MBSE. Find ways to improve on existing processes and expand into MBSE, including model integration of performance models (e.g., MATLAB) with systems engineering models (e.g., Cameo/SysML).
  • Support a wide variety of test and evaluation efforts. This could include both small scale tests conducted in a lab environment, as well as full scale system tests conducted either at government owned test facilities or on-board Navy platforms.

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...
  • Possess a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Systems Engineering (or a closely related field).
  • Have a strong curiosity about Model Based Systems Engineering and/or Model Based Systems Engineering.
  • Are willing and able to travel occasionally (5%) to US Navy facilities, bases and contractor sites.
  • Are able to obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain Secret level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.
  • Can demonstrate that you are fully vaccinated against COVID-19. To ensure the safety and well[1]being of the community, APL has established a policy requiring that all staff be vaccinated against COVID-19. All staff members must provide proof of full vaccination or have an approved medical or religious accommodation by their start date.
You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you...
  • Have experience with radar or sensor systems.
  • Have an active security clearance.
