Electrical Engineer, MEU
As an Electrical Engineer at Cleveland-Cliffs Burns Harbor, you will be part of team making steel that goes into products that are visible all around you. Ideal candidates enjoy hands-on, collaborative environments and are willing to seize opportunities to develop themselves. The successful candidate will provide leadership in ensuring that work is performed safely to efficiently produce and deliver quality steel products to our customers.
Responsibilities:
  • Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and environmental standards. 
  • Possess the ability to work effectively within a team environment, utilizing clear and effective communication skills.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot programming and electrical issues.
  • Create, modify, and confirm programming logic.
  • Recommend and/or perform predictive, preventative, and emergency maintenance on equipment.
  • Resolve equipment malfunctions, including those requiring scheduled shutdowns or breakdown action.
  • Analyze and interpret blueprints, schematics, and drawings of electrical systems.
  • Work closely with operations, engineering, maintenance, and other technical resources to drive results.
  • Manage the planning, scheduling, and cost controlling of maintenance and engineering projects.
  • Manage technical aspects of assigned projects in accordance with customer contract requirements, budget, and production schedule. Seek methods or procedures that reduce costs and/or increase production efficiencies.
  • Analyze current operating performance and standard operating procedures and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Monitor the electrical work of external contractors for the purpose of ensuring that projects are satisfactorily completed in a timely manner.
  • Supervise a crew of hourly maintenance employees, and uphold and enforce safety, environmental, job procedures, and maintain general discipline of the crew.
  • Communicate with upstream and downstream operations and non-Cleveland-Cliffs contractors to coordinate work, deliveries, and service.
  • Various other duties, as needed, to support the business.
Minimum Requirements   
  • Bachelor’s degree (BS) in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology OR equivalent relevant experience
  • Experience supervising or readiness to supervise
  • Must be able to work in a hot, dusty environment. Climbing stairs, ladders, and walking inclines. Able to work/walk safely on uneven surfaces.
  • Must be able to perform duties on different shifts for a multi-level organization which operates 24/7
  • Proven communication (verbal and written), analytical, organizational, and time management skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite


Preferred Requirements 
  • Proven success in the ability to supervise
  • Three years of experience in a heavy industrial environment
  • Engineering experience in steel mill, manufacturing, process, production, or equivalent facility
  • Maintenance background with steel industry experience
  • Working knowledge of industrial wiring, controls, and instrumentation
  • Able to read, troubleshoot, and write ladder logic
  • Experience in tuning and calibration of PID loops and control
  • Experience with PLCs, AC/DC drives, and HMI setup, programming, and configuration
  • Knowledge of safety and health policies including key components of the OSHA regulations
