Intern - Structural Engineering

Merrick & Company is seeking a college or graduate school Structural Engineering student for a paid summer internship for Summer 2023. Imagine working on rewarding client projects and being exposed to unparalleled training and development opportunities! The summer internship has a commitment of approximately mid-May through mid-August 2023.
 
We will be accepting resumes for this opportunity from approximately September – November 2022. Resumes will be reviewed in December/January, interviews will take place in February/March 2023 and offers will be extended in March/April 2023. Timeframe subject to change.
 
Job Description
The Merrick Intern Program will provide an undergraduate or graduate student an opportunity to gain technical experience in the field of structural engineering. The summer internship will provide an undergraduate or graduate student an opportunity to gain technical experience in the field of structural engineering. The intern will be exposed to a variety of structural engineering in an industrial setting with items potentially including structural analysis using computer finite element analysis, structural steel design, foundation design, concrete design, analysis of existing structures, exposure to AISC and ACI codes and standards, and exposure to drawing creation using AutoCAD as well as engineering quality assurance procedures.
 
The position requires the collaboration with other disciplines, ability to interface with clients and contractors, follow schedules and budget commitments, work independently, possess good written and oral communication skills and the ability to problem solve. Must meet expectations for attendance and punctuality. Students who have recently graduated will not be considered.
 
Required Experience
  • Experience with or exposure to AutoCAD is preferred.
  • Must be currently enrolled and entering junior year or higher of undergraduate degree or currently enrolled in grad school.
  • Must be pursuing an engineering degree in Structural Engineering from an A.B.E.T. accredited program.
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher preferred.
  • Local candidates preferred.
  • Candidates must be eligible to work in the United States without Sponsorship.
  • Previous internship in Structural Engineering is a plus.
Physical Requirements
  • Requires the ability to sit for extended periods at a computer workstation.
  • Be able to work in an environment with open discussions and visitors without getting distracted.
  • May be required to lift up to 20 lbs.
