Research Engineer 1

Role Overview:
This position is responsible for working in a cross-functional team of scientists and engineers to deliver on agreed milestones associated with the entire lifecycle of products (i.e., new product development, early phase evaluations, and legacy product support). With guidance, the individual will develop and execute testing plans, evaluate testing risk, and ensure adherence to all appropriate standards and documentation requirements. The individual's decisions will be guided by existing policies, procedures, and business plans, as well as more senior colleagues/management.
The individual is expected to possess knowledge in the field of materials science and engineering. The individual is expected to be hands-on and to spend a significant amount of time in the laboratory environment. The individual is expected to have good interpersonal skills and work well within a team environment. The individual is expected to adapt to departmental plans and prioritize to address resource and operational challenges. The individual is expected to have a fundamental understanding of materials characterization techniques. 
Responsibilities
  • Works with senior colleagues/management to achieve agreed milestones for the research and NPD programs where key focus is materials research and materials process development. Works in a cross-functional team and provide direction on materials testing (internal vs. external) based on the capacity and capability. Liaise with national as well as international regulatory bodies as needed. Comply with laboratory management system according to international and S&N (ex: ISO 17025) standards. Create or provide guidance in creation of work instructions. (40%)
  • Write, present and review test reports, retrieval reports, research manuscripts, presentations, white papers, customer communication documents, and invention disclosures related to materials research/process development. Use expertise to solve problems that impact the business using innovative solutions. Propose, initiate, co-ordinate and review appropriate internal or external studies that will satisfy internal and external testing requirements. Communicate test plans and results to senior management as needed. Interact, present to internal or external experts, HCPs etc. (40%)
  • Perform administrative functions as necessary including performance review, objective setting, development plans, talent management, etc. Ensure maintenance of complete and accurate records for all controlled documentation. Other miscellaneous activities include attending meetings, submitting financial/travel requests, coordinating team activities, conducting tours, and making presentations (20%)
Location: Memphis, TN
Education: B.S. or M.S. in Materials Science, Materials Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or related discipline
Experience: Hands-on experience working in materials and process development preferred
Competencies
Must have good team and communication skills.
Requires use of e-mail, Internet, and standard Microsoft Office Software.
Must have good time management skills.
