Purpose

The Engineer will perform moderately complex engineering analysis, design, and calculations pertaining to the construction of new or maintenance of existing natural gas underground distribution infrastructure. This can include the economic aspects and business case justification for projects, not only engineering aspects. Work is to be completed with minimal guidance. Follow updates in research and developments taking place in the power industry through training and industry associations.

Responsibilities

•Perform moderately complex engineering analyses, design and calculations using standard methodology and principles and other viable approaches. 
•Develop alternate methods or design concepts to resolve problems or to improve processes/services. 
•Solve moderately complex distribution engineering problems. 
•Takes a new perspective on established solutions. E.g. system modifications, district regulator/gate station rebuild or replacement, bridge attachments etc. 
•Prepare, maintain, and understand drawings (e.g. civil, subsurface). 
•Develop and specify equipment, assemble documents and other requirements of moderate to complex level of difficulty. 
•Represent engineering aspects of natural gas engineering on assigned project teams. Act as a resource for colleagues with less experience and provide guidance to other team members on gas distribution infrastructure issues. 
•Review the engineering work of drafters, designers, subordinate engineers, and consultants. 
•Interprets and make recommendations with respect to customer and stakeholder needs. 
•Promotes cross functional teamwork on assigned tasks and projects. 
•Assist in guiding and mentoring engineers in civil design and engineering development. 
•Provides direction for resources outside of the department.
•Interprets processes and standards related to distribution infrastructure. 
•Recommends solutions and best practices for standard and non-standard situations. 
•Represents Distribution Infrastructure on projects, task forces and studies.
•Develops business cases and manage small projects/processes/initiatives or teams in accordance with applicable CNG/SCG guidelines. 
•Coordinate phases of engineering for assigned portions of a project/program.
•Plan, schedule, monitor, control budget/estimates, construction plans and material orders for assigned tasks and/or projects.
•Works independently to specify and design systems to address standard and non-standard situations. 
•Apply design standards, industry codes, design criteria, guidelines and CNG/SCG polices/procedures.
•Possess and demonstrated in-depth experience, knowledge and skills in Engineering, along with related business practices and procedures. 
•Able to explain difficult issues and work to establish consensus. 
•Able to work in a cross-functional team and guide or mentor other team members. 
•Able to work independently on complex engineering problems with minimal supervision or direction.

Skills and Requirements

Education & Experience Required:
•Requires a bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited college/ university plus 5 years’ experience performing engineering duties, preferably in the natural gas industry. 
•The CNG/SCG Basic Engineering Training Curriculum (e.g. ECNE-PUI) or equivalent can be considered appropriate work experience. 
•Engineering degrees in Civil, Mechanical or Construction Management may be preferred.
