Responsible for carrying out functions associated with Growth Geology. Duties include geologic logging, maintaining records and sample chain-of-custody, supervising sample collection, logging and testing of drill samples, supervising drill rig setup, use of associated software, database, GIS, AutoCAD, and have excellent communication skills. Geologist must work safely and actively participate in all H&S programs. Geologists work under the supervision of Staff and other Contract Geologists.
 
Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Participation in drilling campaigns
  • Sampling programs 
  • Mine site mapping
  • Dewatering oversight
  • Drill core logging- keeping accurate detailed records of drill core data
  • Sampling- determining appropriate intervals for sampling and sampling accurately
  • Report to the Senior or Project Geologist
  • Other duties might include- picking up core from drill site and mapping, might occasionally operate a fork lift, wrapping and moving pallets, shoveling, other types of physical work
 
Qualifications, Technical Skills, and Management Knowledge:
  • Demonstrated proficiency in multiple computer applications including MS Office suite
  • Data entry using site determined software and entering drill data accurately 
  • Follow quality assurance/control methods in logging and sampling
  • Adhering to site safety practices at all times 
  • Highly motivated, resourceful, with a demonstrated ability to work well with limited supervision; work alone in a remote area
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, and able to write and log data for long periods of time 
  • Must be able to communicate well and work in a dynamic, fast-paced, team-oriented environment
  • The ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, walk on uneven terrain, sit and stand for extended periods of time
  • Work in inclement weather conditions- exposed to wet/humid outside conditions (rain/snow/sun/cold/heat)
  • Attend site specific MSHA class
  • 4-year degree in Geology or related-field
