Capital Project Engineer - Civil Engineer

Basic Purpose
On November 5, 2021, the Occupational Safety and Hazards Administration (OSHA) published their Emergency Temporary Standard (ETS) based on the federally mandated vaccine requirement for all employers with 100 or more employees. Our state has an OSHA-approved plan (through Labor & Industries – LNI) which we anticipate will be coming out with our state mandated vaccine requirements on or around January 4, 2022. Due to this, the City will be requiring that all new hires (hired after January 4, 2022) be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. This condition of employment for new hires with the City of Lacey is, at this time, in response to the minimum standards of compliance outlined in the federal ETS and these requirements are subject to change depending upon the guidance that is still pending from our state OSHA-approved plan. Please be aware that an exemption may be granted for religious or medical purposes; however, accommodation requests will be subject to approval based on the essential functions required of the position.

Under supervision of a Professional Engineer, performs professional-level engineering and project management work in connection with a variety of Public Works projects. The Capital Projects Engineer is responsible for the scheduling, cost estimating, schematic design, design development, preparation of plans and specifications, bidding, construction/contract administration and compliance with legal requirements for a variety of building, facility, and parks related projects. The Capital Project Engineer analyzes, researches, plans and designs/manages design of municipal structures and systems, reviews development plans, and/or leads technical support staff in the work of the assigned section. Incumbents frequently use professional judgment in analyzing engineering data and system problems.
