Laboratory Manager or Research Technician II/III (Ay Lab)

Job Summary
A full-time position for a research technician is available immediately at the La Jolla Institute for Immunology in the lab of Ferhat Ay. Prior experience in functional genomics is required. The candidate will directly report to the principal investigator and help him establish capabilities in high-throughput genomics, transcriptomics and epigenetics assays as well as in CRISPR techniques. The work will require working with primary human samples and cell lines. The candidate should have a background in molecular biology. A qualified candidate with experience could also be offered the Laboratory Manager position.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Grow and maintain cell lines.
  • Perform DNA transfections and genome editing experiments.
  • Extract nucleic acids and perform PCR and qPCR.
  • Work with LJI's research cores such as flow cytometry and sequencing.    
  • Design and execute experimental quality controls. 
  • Train students and post-doctoral fellows.
  • Order lab supplies and maintain inventory.

Leveling Requirements
  • B.A./B.S. or a higher degree in biological sciences.
  • College-level knowledge of molecular biology (immunology experience is a plus).
  • Ability to contribute to project design, experimental execution and data interpretation.
  • Previous experience in a molecular biology laboratory or a similar setting.
