Air Resources Technician II

The California Air Resources Board (CARB) is a nationally and internationally recognized leader in air pollution control, establishing innovative and dynamic programs to protect and improve air quality for the citizens of California. The Off-Road Implementation Section (ORIS) within the Heavy-Duty Off-Road Strategies Branch is looking for a highly motivated applicant with strong technical and customer service skills, an ability to understand regulatory and program requirements, and a willingness to work in a team environment.
ORIS is primarily responsible for implementing CARB's In-Use Off-Road Diesel-Fueled Fleets and Large Spark-Ignition Engine Fleet Requirements Regulations (Off-Road Regulations). Additionally, the Section is responsible for regulatory amendments and policy considerations to achieve additional emission reductions from the off-road sector to carry out the mission of CARB. The Section accomplishes this through direct fleet assistance, regulatory expertise, outreach, training, and development of reporting and compliance assistance tools. The Section is responsible for coordinating within CARB and other stakeholders to achieve high compliance rates. The section manages and supports grants demonstrating and deploying advanced technology mobile sources in the off-road sector. The Section also supports development of other regulations, plans, and technical assessments, as needed.
Under direction of the Air Resources Supervisor I, the incumbent will work as part of a team consisting of high-level technical staff (engineers and scientists) and other Air Resources Technicians to provide compliance assistance with the Off-Road Regulations working directly with the regulated community. The candidate will assist fleets in understanding the Off-Road Regulations’ requirements, compliance options, and provide critical feedback to management to identify and implement program improvements. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to be learn CARB’s current regulations, policies, and direction in order to analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action.
