Electrical Engineer GS-12/13

This position is part of the Southwestern Power Administration, Department Of Energy. As a Electrical Engineer, you will be planning, developing, implementing and have operational oversight for components within assigned programs/projects. The employee is responsible for the sustained progress of assigned programs/projects in accordance with scope, cost, and schedule baselines.

Perform engineering design and is responsible for the preparation of plans, specifications, and drawings for original, additional modifications, or temporary construction of SWPA substation equipment, protective relay schemes/systems, communication systems, and control systems.
Investigate power system protective relay operations by reviewing protective relay event records, coordinating with other utilities, gathering evidence, and developing/monitoring corrective action plans.

Develop comprehensive maintenance programs to assure reliability of SWPA's system protection and communication systems in cooperation with other engineers and technicians in the Division of System Protection and Communications.

Act as project manager for assigned projects. Perform project coordination and resolve issues affecting assigned programs/projects with support from other technical experts within or outside of assigned organization.

Accomplish long range, intermediate, and near-term planning/conceptual designs for various system protection and communications systems.
