In this role, as the Source Control Engineer for Puget Sound Initiative sites such as the Lower Duwamish Waterway (LDW) and other cleanup projects throughout the Northwest Regional Office (NWRO), you will accomplish the goals of the Toxics Cleanup Program as it relates to upland and in-water source control and site cleanup. Source control is defined as the process of finding sources of contaminants, characterizing them and then taking actions to stop or reduce them before they reach the LDW. You will contribute to protecting the people and the environment of Washington State for the future, while gaining experience working with the public, local governments and agencies.

The Toxics Cleanup Program (TCP) is looking to fill an Source Control Engineer (Environmental Engineer 5) position. This position will be located in our Northwest Regional Office (NWRO) Located in Shoreline, WA.

Duties

 

 

Accidental spills of dangerous materials and past business practices have contaminated land and water throughout the state. The Toxics Cleanup Program (TCP) works to remedy these situations, which range from cleaning up contamination from leaking underground storage tanks, to large, complex projects requiring engineering solutions. Our mission is to get and keep contaminants out of the environment.

In Washington state, we've identified over 13,000 contaminated sites in need of cleanup and oversight by our professional teams. Over 7,000 of those sites have been cleaned up, and 200 to 300 new sites are reported every year. Most of these sites are large and complex, with multiple sources of contamination. Many of these complex sites have multiple sources of contamination in soil and groundwater. Most contaminated sites in Washington are handled by our Toxics Cleanup Program and are cleaned up under Washington’s environmental cleanup law, the Model Toxics Control Act (MTCA). Property owners may clean-up sites independently or under Ecology supervision. Ecology can also clean-up sites. The successful professional selected for this position will become an essential member of our amazing team.

Cleanup Project Manager and Engineering Support

 

Qualifications

A Master's degree with major study in one of the following engineering fields, sanitary water resource, civil, geotechnical, environmental, chemical, mechanical, or related field.

 

 

Registration as a professional engineer in the State of Washington or another state based on registration requirements equivalent to those in Washington and four years of experience in environmental engineering including at least one year experience in source control engineering.

 

 

An Engineer-In-Training Certificate or a Bachelor's degree with a major study in one of the following engineering fields: sanitary, civil, geotechnical ,water resource, environmental, chemical, mechanical or related field.

 

 

Registration as a professional engineer in the State of Washington or another state based on registration requirements equivalent to those in Washington and five years of experience in environmental engineering including one year experience in source control engineering.
