The Role

We are looking for a Electrical Engineer to join our core technical team as a key contributor. Your primary responsibility will be in the design and development of Motiv’s powertrain components, from high power converters to system controllers. A successful candidate will contribute at all stages of the product development process and will work closely with hardware, software, and manufacturing engineers to ensure Motiv designs result in successful products. You will be responsible for maintaining an expertise in the electric vehicle and component technology landscape; understanding how various advancements might fit into Motiv’s system and to ensure Motiv stays at the leading edge of development in the heavy duty electrical vehicles industry.

Candidates for this role will be expected to provide mentorship, inspiration, and leadership across the technical organization.



Responsibilities

  • Design and develop hardware that includes but is not limited to:
  • 100 kVA+ traction inverters 
  • Signal-level electronics, including gate drivers and PMSM motor controllers
  • Develop elegant solutions to complex engineering problems on the circuit, component, and vehicle levels 
  • Design analog and digital circuits for Motiv’s powertrain components 
  • Strong advocacy for rigorous engineering practice and thought throughout the organization
  • Working with vendors and partners (current and potential) to consider new component integration into Motiv’s powertrain 
  • Participate in developing next generation ideas and state of art technology in the heavy duty electrical vehicle industry.

Required Experience and Skills

  • 4-year engineering degree and 2-5 years of relevant experience or equivalent; advanced degree holders are preferred
  • Circuit analysis 
  • Power Electronics
  • Analog and Digital Circuits
  • Expertise in component-level circuit debugging with DMM, oscilloscope
  • Knowledge of feedback control and stability
  • Digital Communications [CAN, SPI]
  • Programming Skills [ Matlab &/or Python]
  • Simulation tools [SIMULINK, SPICE]
  • Familiar with engineering release processes [ PLM, ECR/ ECO ]
