Education: Bachelors Degree in Engineering in designated area of specialization or related discipline.

Months/Years of Experience: Three (3) years of experience performing engineering duties in designing, constructing, and testing aircraft missiles, and spacecraft; and conducting basic and applied research to evaluate adaptability of materials and equipment to aircraft design and manufacture.

Duties: Responsibilities will include collecting various evidence of material properties by performing various material characterization tasks including metallographic evaluations to determine microstructure, verification and determination of alloy composition, and using various elemental analysis tools. The candidate will be responsible for supporting a variety of tests using established methods and procedures.

Required Qualifications: U.S. Citizenship. Must have or be able to acquire a security clearance. The candidate must be familiar with various ferrous and nonferrous metallic material properties, and the relationship between material properties, temper, and performance. Apply the principles of the relationship between material properties and microstructure to identify improper processing techniques. Candidate should have an understanding in the mechanical behavior of various ferrous and nonferrous metallic materials. Materials engineer skills include the ability to interpret the appropriate drawings, Technical Data Packages, specifications, DMWR, technical manual, etc. to determine conformance to all requirements. Ability to understand engineering terminology and communicate effectively with others. The candidate must be skilled in reading and understanding English, in which required standing operating procedures are written. Ability to write technical reports that include various testing data of a component in relation to drawing and processing requirements. Review peer reports for grammatical and technical accuracy. Organizational and time management skills a must.

Desired Qualifications: Familiarity with various materials characterization equipment and their limitations, including but not limited to Optical Emission Spectroscopy (OES), Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS), Wavelength Dispersive Spectroscopy (WDS), Atomic Emission Spectroscopy (AES), hardness testing, micro-hardness testing, and conductivity testing. Comfortable with determining the appropriate testing equipment or testing specification required to verify requirements provided in drawings or industry/military specifications. Familiarity with effective etchants and chemistry required to perform metallurgical analysis of various ferrous and nonferrous materials.
