 Auto Body Repair Technician

The State of New Hampshire, Department of Transportation, Bureau of Mechanical Services, has a full time vacancy for an Auto Body Repair Technician.

SUMMARY: Performs skilled auto body repair, reconstruction and spray painting at the journeyman level on NHDOT fleet equipment for the bureau of mechanical services.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Analyzes damage/deterioration, devises methods, fabricates parts and effects repair to vehicle and equipment bodies and frames to restore structural integrity and original condition.
  • Inspects, appraises and prepares written estimates of damages to vehicles involved in accidents to provide documentation for insurance settlement and repair purposes.
  • Shapes and install vehicle/equipment body/frame parts and prepares unit for spray painting.
  • Performs minor and major repairs to or replaces mechanical components associated with accident damage.
  • Completes vehicles work repair orders to document repairs for life history records.
  • As assigned, drives or transports damaged vehicles and equipment to private repair shops for the purpose of obtaining comparative repair estimates where second party insurance companies are involved.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Associate's degree from an accredited institute of higher education with a major study in automotive repair, restoration or a related field. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one (1) year of required work experience.

Experience:  Two (2) years of experience performing auto body repair work in a large commercial or highway garage. Each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one (1) year of required formal education.

License/Certification: Must possess a valid driver’s license. The applicant’s Motor Vehicle record (MVR) must meet the minimum standards as established by the hiring agency.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Possession of Commercial Driver’s License B (CDL-B) with airbrakes.

SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS: Shall provide own standard assortment of hand tools used in the trade up to 1” in diameter and ½” drive. All accountabilities must be performed in accordance with State and Department rules and policies, including risk management, safety and environmental standards, regulations and administrative orders.
