Minimum Requirements: Proof of application for, or enrollment in. a college curriculum preparing for upper-division status in an engineering, architectural, or landscape architectural curriculum leading to a bachelor's or advanced degree.


Location: The State Water Resources Control Board’s Division of Financial Assistance has an opening for an Engineering Student Assistant in the Division’s Storm Water Grant Program Unit. The position is located at 1001 I Street, 17th Floor, Sacramento, right in the heart of downtown close to light rail stations, other public transportation, awesome restaurants, and more.


Duties:

Under the close supervision of the Senior Water Resource Control Engineer in the Division’s Storm Water Grant Program Unit and consistent with good customer service practices and the goals of the State and Regional Water Board’s Strategic Plan, the incumbent is expected to be courteous, punctual, organized and provide timely responses to internal/ external customers, follow through on commitments, and to solicit and consider customer input when completing work assignments. The Engineering Student Assistant works on a variety of sub-professional tasks related to planning, design, construction, and implementation of water quality protection and improvement projects. Projects may be related to cleanup, drinking water, clean beaches, ground water, storm water, nonpoint sources pollution watershed protection, and integrated regional water management projects. 
Knowledge of basic engineering principles, proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, & database software (i.e. Word, Excel, Access), and familiarity with relevant funding program guidelines adopted by the State Water Resources Control Board is necessary for the incumbent to be successful in the position. Some travel may be required. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Working at the sub-professional level, assists staff in the review and evaluation of project funding applications, reports, and proposals for compliance with State Water Board Policies, Guidelines, and Procedures;
  • Gaining proficiency in the use of the online Financial Assistance Application Submittal Tool (FAAST), Loans and Grants Tracking System (LGTS), and other job-related tools and databases;
  • Calculating median household income and other metrics using Geographical Informational Systems (GIS), spreadsheet software, and various online references;
  • Developing checklists, forms, reports, presentations, graphics, letters, and flowcharts for Unit staff and management;
  • Assisting staff with data collection, data analysis, project tracking, correspondence with local, state, and federal agencies;
  • Assisting Unit staff in their duties, as needed, reviewing invoices, quarterly progress reports, and other technical documents;
  • Updating and organizing program filing systems and libraries, assists in file room activities, maintaining electronic or paper auditable files using standard operating procedures; and
  • Respond to email/phone inquiries, attend meetings, and perform other duties as assigned.
