Colorado Springs Utilities is seeking an electrical engineer to join our Substation and Transmission Engineering group as a Substation Maintenance Staff Engineer. Our electric system is growing, and we are building our substation engineering team for the future.

The roles and responsibilities of this position include:
  • Training under the Senior Substation Maintenance Engineer on substation equipment design, testing, and provide support on miscellaneous responsibilities
  • Developing familiarity with and providing support to Subject Matter Expert for substation equipment. This includes equipment: technical specifications, procurements, design reviews, factory testing, operating manuals, and forecasting
  • Providing support for analyzing and interpreting the results of various substation equipment tests and recommending appropriate actions to be taken
  • Developing familiarity with and provide support for relevant NERC standards
  • Providing technical support for field personnel as needed, including after-hours
  • Provide support for analyzing and prioritizing maintenance work and develop maintenance intervals and practices for all substation equipment
  • Developing standards for substation spare parts, materials, and equipment; and incorporating the necessary material/equipment into the system
  • Providing support for developing, maintaining, and administering relevant training to substation personnel, including the Substation Hazard Communication training (web-based and in-class)
  • Working with warehouse personnel to incorporate necessary material/equipment into the system for both the Substation Operations and Relay Instrumentation & Control Groups

What will it take to be successful in this position?
 A Bachelor's degree in Power System Engineering or Electrical Engineering from an accredited program is required at the time of hire. The ideal candidate will also possess excellent learning and communications skills and the ability to quickly make prioritization adjustments due to system and operational needs.
