Entry Level Mechanical Engineer

Associate/Intermediate:
S9G Power Plant Mechanical Engineering positions provide design engineering support for S9G New Construction and Fleet submarine mechanical systems. Duties include; design and development of reactor plant mechanical system upgrades and new equipment installation, including associated mechanical, fluid, and heat transfer analysis and engineering evaluations. Also evaluating reactor plant system performance test data, and developing and maintaining reactor plant operating procedures, testing instructions and maintenance procedures.
Other typical duties include trouble shooting and analytical evaluations in support of diagnosing and correcting reactor plant equipment performance issues.
In general duties require performing engineering evaluations and analyses, and making engineering decisions for all aspects of assigned tasks. Cognizant areas may include planning, designing, modeling, analyzing, documenting, and testing of nuclear, mechanical, structural or electrical components, systems and equipment and facilities. Work may include chemical or materials evaluations, design reviews, operations support, safety analysis, engineering methods and software development, and analysis of vendor's procedures and systems for quality control or manufacturing surveillance.

REQUIRED SKILLS *

Associate:
  • BS degree in engineering or Bachelor's degree in a science related field from an accredited college or university required.

 
Intermediate:
  • BS degree in engineering or Bachelor's degree in a science related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of two years of relevant experience; or
  • MS degree in engineering or Master's degree in a science related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of one year of relevant experience; or
  • Currently or previously EOOW qualified in the Nuclear Operations Program

PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering with a Emphasis in Thermodynamics, Fluids, and/or Structures.
  • 3.2 or Higher Cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale
  • Past experience as an Intern and/or Co-op at any NNL location and/or at any Power Generating facility
