Field Applications Engineer - RF Applications


Job Summary:
As a Field Application Engineer focused in RF Applications, you’ll be one of the key players in the Customer Application Support team and part of a worldwide technical community providing premium pre and post sales technical support to NXP customers and their contactless applications projects. You drive demand creation and design-in activity at customer sites in close cooperation with the NXP business lines; you provide technical skills & support to NXP’s sales staff and will liaise with the NXP technical community about technical issues and future roadmap of your customer(s). We rely on you to deliver the NXP value message in a persuasive and accurate manner, in order to increase our market share.

  • Accountable to drive design wins in target accounts
  • Lead proof of concept, solution design, and demonstrations to secure NXP solution’s design-in
  • Synthesize customer and competitive insights to improve product definition and roadmaps
  • Direct the NXP design-in campaigns for assigned customers to ensure early involvement in the customer’s technology roadmap and timely flow of information to all necessary parties within NXP and customer
  • Understand and communicate how ecosystem solutions can position NXP in the best possible manner
  • Qualify sales opportunities in terms of customer technical requirements and establishes NXP's value proposition/position relative to the competition
  • Qualify the value of NXP's products (strengths versus competitive products) and quantifies the technical benefits derived from choosing NXP
  • Own the system software architect role to ensure broader technical team understands the software value proposition for system proposals
  • Successfully build relationships with sales team members, business lines, partners and customers in support of sales team objectives
  • Analyze customer's technical objectives through the use of relevant data gathering techniques enabling the sales team to be more predictive, effective and responsive to customer needs
  • Assist in educating Field Sales Engineers on new technologies, new product features and their related business value
Job Qualifications:
Responsibilities:
The candidate will join the RF competence structure in San Jose that support the promotion and deployment in the Americas Regions of Contactless solutions based on NFC and UWB.
In this role, the candidate will specifically:

  • Provide technical consultancy and guidance to customers during the system definition and implementation phases of Contactless solutions, leveraging the NXP portfolio of NFC tags, NFC front-ends and controllers and UWB.
  • Support technical design-in activities with a focused hands-on on Antenna design, tuning and optimization.
  • Lead system debugging activities with an active contribution to RF related issues.
  • Perform complete compliance pre-screening throughout all regulatory testing (e.g. EMVCo, NFC Forum, ISO...)
  • Review complete layout for RF performance.
  • Build and maintain technical product trainings for customers 
  • Be willing to travel national and internationally.
For that purpose, you will need to own :
MUST

  • Master’s degree in electrical engineering with a major and/or concentration in Radio Frequencies (RF)
  • Hands-on experience with Network Analyzers, Oscilloscopes and RF simulation and debugging tools
  • Exposure to schematic design and layout for RF sections.
  • C and scripting language programming capability.
  • Strong communication skills
  • Motivation to learn through reading, experimentation and coaching
  • Sense of Initiative
  • Willingness to perform in fast-paced environment
  • Ability to travel (up to 25%) and on short notice
HIGHLY DESIRABLE (DIFFERENTIATOR)

  • 1-2 years of Experience with RF Antenna design and simulation - applied to mobile devices and infrastructure readers
  • Implementation of schematic design and layout for RF sections.
  • Knowledge of regulatory testing like EMVCo and/or NFC ISO
  • Knowledge of 802.15.4z
  • 1-2 years of experience ideally with a track record of customer facing.

The salary listed is the low end of the base for a Masters level graduate for this role, which is also eligible for a quarterly incentive bonus, based on the achievement of stated objectives.
