Human Physiology Research Internship

The U.S. Army Research Institute of Environmental Medicine (USARIEM), located in Natick, Massachusetts, is an internationally recognized center of excellence for Warfighter health and performance science and its applications. The Institute functions as a world-class laboratory for environmental medicine, physiology, and nutrition research. The Thermal and Mountain Medicine Division (TMMD) conducts research regarding the physiological impacts of exposure to extreme environments (heat, cold, and altitude), with the goal of mitigating the negative effects of these environmental stressors on the health, performance and mission-readiness of military personnel. Ongoing studies within TMMD are evaluating the influences of heat, cold and high altitude on exercise performance, cognitive function and manual dexterity, as well as the efficacy of various countermeasures to optimize performance in these environments. To learn more about USARIEM, please visit https://www.usariem.army.mil/.

TMMD is seeking a master's-level research participant to take part in the human physiology research study. The participant will learn how to collect, organize, and analyze data for the ongoing research study regarding physiological responses and the optimization of performance to extreme environments. The participant will also have the opportunity to collaborate with their assigned mentor to support the research team with literature reviews, data collection, data analysis and manuscript preparation.

Qualifications

Candidates should have recently earned a Master of Science degree in the exercise sciences, exercise physiology, or a closely related field. Demonstrated proficiency with written and oral communication, and excellent organizational skills are preferred. Experience with collecting data in human subjects related to exercise or environmental physiology is a plus.
