Senior Wastewater Mechanical Specialist

SALARY: $4,789 - $5,820/mo.

THE POSITION
Under general supervision, the Senior Wastewater Mechanic Specialist provides lead direction to Wastewater Mechanical Technicians and Specialists while participating in the repair, service, and maintenance of Wastewater Treatment Plant equipment, machinery, and related equipment. Incumbent trains and instructs employees, maintains maintenance records, inventory, and repairs of variety of equipment, machinery, and control systems in the treatment plants to ensure efficient plant operation.
 
One vacancy currently exists in the Department of Public Utilities, Wastewater Management Division. Immediate and future vacancies will be filled from this eligible list for a period of six (6) months from the date the eligible list is created, with the option of extending that period at the City's discretion. If the examination process is suspended for this recruitment, the eligible list may be limited to three (3) months.
 
PAY, BENEFITS & WORK SCHEDULE
BENEFITS: UNIT 1 - International Union of Operating Engineers, Stationary Engineers Local 39)

THE REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications on or before the posted filing deadline in order to qualify for the examination and does not assure a place on the eligibility list.
 
Two (2) years of experience equivalent to that gained as a Wastewater Mechanical Specialist in the City service. Such experience includes, maintenance, service, and repair of pumps, motors, hydraulic and pneumatic systems in an industrial or utility setting equivalent to that gained as a Wastewater Mechanical Specialist in the City service and working with computer maintenance management system CMMS.
 
A valid California Water Environmental Association (CWEA) Mechanical Technologist Grade III certification is desirable.
 
Possession and continued maintenance of a valid California Driver's License at time of appointment.
 
Based upon assignment, possession of a valid Commercial Class B California Driver's License may be required.
 
The selected eligible candidates certified will be required to successfully pass a Department interview and a Department of Justice fingerprint prior to employment with the City of Fresno.

THE SELECTION PROCESS
The examination process may consist of the following: 
 
Written Examination - 100 % The written examination is designed to assess a candidate's knowledge may include the following areas: knowledge of the methods, tools, and equipment used in the mechanical, electrical, and welding trades; general construction maintenance and repair work practices and terminology; lead direction; safety; maintenance and repair of tools and equipment; tool identification and interpersonal & public relations. Candidates must achieve a passing score to qualify for the eligible list.
 
The written examination is tentatively scheduled for the week of: May 3, 2021.
 
VETERAN’S PREFERENCE
Candidates applying for veteran's preference are required to submit a copy of their DD214 with their application during the specified filing period. Evidence must be presented to indicate that the candidate was discharged honorably from the military service. Veterans, including City employees, must resubmit proof of honorable service for every examination for which veteran's preference credit is requested. Qualified veterans who pass the examination will have five (5) points added to their final score.
