Research Associate / Senior Research Associate (Strain Engineering)
At Geltor we design award-winning ingredients for the world's biggest consumer product companies. Geltor is looking for a RESEARCH ASSOCIATE / SR. RESEARCH ASSOCIATE to join our Strain Engineering team in San Leandro, CA.
The RA/SRA will play a key role in designing/executing experiments related to the construction and optimization of microbial strains for the production of our proprietary proteins. This position offers the opportunity for a self-motivated and detail-oriented Research Associate/Senior Research Associate with a strong background in molecular biology, protein expression, or microbial genetics to join a collaborative, fast-paced team that is sustainably creating new proteins
Key responsibilities:
- Help design, execute and troubleshoot experiments focused on molecular cloning and protein expression and metabolic engineering
- Execute high-throughput plate-based microbial culturing assays
- Analyze protein expression through various methods
- Collect, analyze and present data to internal stakeholders and cross-functional teams
- Lead by example, champion Geltor, and uphold company values
Requirements:
- B.S. in Microbiology, Metabolic Engineering, Molecular Biology, related discipline, or equivalent
- Knowledge of molecular biology techniques in one or more prokaryotic or eukaryotic hosts; depth of understanding and experience will determine job level
- Experience with standard molecular biology techniques including PCR, Gibson and/or Golden Gate assembly, transformation, gel electrophoresis and microbial culturing
- Experience with protein expression and biochemistry a plus
- Ability to conduct experiments, evaluate and interpret results, and solicit help when needed
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to collect and maintain detailed records and effectively prioritize tasks
- Interpersonal and communication skills to share knowledge and discuss technical concepts within the team
- Proficiency with common software (MS Word, Excel, etc.); experience with Laboratory Information Management Systems (e.g. Benchling) a plus
- Strong analytical, data interpretation, and problem-solving capabilities to think critically about complex problems and contribute to a team environment
