Assistant Office Engineer | Transportation Engineer 2

The Opportunity
WSDOT is currently seeking an Assistant Office Engineer to join our team to provide construction contract administration support to the Gateway Program – SR-509 Completion project team. This position supports WSDOT's mission by ensuring that highway construction projects are built and documented in compliance with agency policies, procedures, and practices. As the Assistant Office Engineer, the successful candidate will be tasked with the administration and processing of contractor submittals, accurate and timely Contractor progress payments, clear and concise correspondence, change order preparation and completion of final records to support safe, reliable and cost-efficient transportation options for the public. 
 
What to Expect
Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the Assistant Office Engineer will:
  • Assists Office Manager to ensure change management/contract compliance and prepare routine reports at the direction of the Office Manager.
  • Prepare weekly project update and monthly reports, updating the contract regularly with all approved changes. 
  • Maintain contract management software for tracking of issues, change order requests, submittals and status. 
  • Represent WSDOT attending contractor/owner change management meetings. 
  • Review and prepare contractor payments and perform weekly jobsite visits and interviews. 
  • Verify all requests to sublet the Design Builder’s listing of approved subcontractors and agents are in compliance with the contract provisions. 
 
Qualifications
To be considered for this opportunity, the following are required:
  • One (1) year of experience as a Transportation Engineer 1 or equivalent experience and two (2) years of construction experience with design-build and/or design-bid-build contracts.
 
In addition to:
  • Current valid driver’s license
  • Ability to read, understand, and interpret construction plans and provisions along with relevant supporting documents for conformance with engineering principles and standards. 
  • Comprehensive understanding of highway construction and contract administration principles and practices. 
  • Ability to travel throughout the region to visit project sites. 
 
It is preferred that qualified candidates also have:
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or Construction Management
  • Engineer In Training (EIT) or Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certification
  • Experience conducting field reviews and performing contract compliance inspection and reporting for construction of heavy civil roadway work. 
  • Knowledge of and experience with construction administration procedures for WSDOT projects. 
  • Knowledge of WSDOT construction manual, Design Manual, and utility requirements and standards.
