Environmental Field Technician (Entry Level) - Portland

ERM is seeking a hands-on Environmental Field Technician to join our environmental consulting firm in Portland, Oregon. In this role, you will be supporting the day-to-day operations and maintenance of a groundwater extraction and treatment system, conduct field work according to work plans, Health and Safety plans, and Standard Operating Procedures for site investigation, remediation, and environmental construction projects at industrial sites throughout Oregon, the Pacific Northwest, and across North America, as needed. RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support onsite groundwater extraction and treatment plant operations in accordance to regulatory compliance with the treatment plant process control strategy, including monitoring and maintaining biological system health, management of waste streams, and performing mechanical, plumbing, and electrical system troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Conduct field work, including soil, sediment, ground water, surface water, and stormwater sampling and monitoring.
  • Perform operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and installation of mechanical systems associated with site remediation and industrial wastewater treatment systems.
  • Perform field measurements and calculations. Record and compile field data.
  • Perform assigned office duties, such as data entry, subcontractor management, and field program cost estimating.
  • Manage and perform field subcontractor and vendor oversight, and working with project management team to execute subcontractor scope(s) of work.
  • Ensure safety of oneself and one's team members during project operations.
  • Coordinate and communicate with client representatives, subcontractors, and ERM employees.
  • The job candidate must be dependable, detail-oriented, able to follow directions, able to work under minimal supervision.
  • The candidate must be willing to work weekends and overtime hours, and be willing to respond to emergencies outside regular business hours.


REQUIREMENTS:

  • Three to five years of hands-on construction or maintenance background with mechanical, electrical, maintenance, and/or plumbing field experience in an industrial or manufacturing setting. Familiarity with operating and maintaining water and wastewater treatment systems is a plus.
  • Ability to independently complete field assignments and summarize data for investigation reports.
  • Willingness/interest in field assignments and traveling to project sites.
  • Basic computer literacy, including proficient MS Office skills. Familiarity with PLC controlled systems and computer interfaces is a plus.
  • Strong commitment to safety, including following established Health and Safety protocols.
  • Strong initiative (self-starter), problem-solving and communication skills, and attention to detail and QA/QC.
  • Valid driver’s license and a good driving record. Forklift training and experience using forklifts a plus.
  • Prefer a two-year technical degree in the field of engineering, environmental monitoring, or equivalent a plus.
  • 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification a plus.
