Classification & Treatment Officer


The Mission of the Luther Luckett Correctional Complex, in accordance with the Department of Corrections is twofold:

1. To promote public safety, secure incarceration from the community; and,

2. To give felons the opportunities for the capability to contribute positively to society upon release through use of constructive classification, programs, and work assignment.

The Classification & Treatment Officers (CTOs) at the Luther Luckett Correctional Complex are responsible for the review of the files of each inmate. They play a vital part in helping Inmates adjust to incarceration by answering questions and establishing a rapport with the inmates on their caseload. They also work closely with security to maintain the safety and security of the institution.

The ideal candidate for this position will have exceptional organizational, communication, time management and computer skills. They must also be able to multi-task, work well under pressure and be a team player.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Interview and classify all Inmates.
  • Serve as a member during classification committee.
  • Recommend programming based on inmate's needs.
  • Utilize the Kentucky Offender Management System and enter information into inmate files.
  • Review inmate classifications for reclassification as needed per adjustment results and the removal/addition of detainers.
  • Conduct risk assessments and 30-day reviews for each inmate.
  • Field phone calls from family members as well as attorneys and other outside agencies.
  • Arrange scheduled visits with attorneys and other outside agencies as needed.
  • Review Meritorious Good Time monthly for current caseload.
  • Review and submit job classification forms.
  • Assist security staff when needed in the unit and on the yard.
  • Work a designated late night each week and facilitate an inmate program.
  • Conduct daily tours throughout the unit.
  • Hold scheduled office hours to remain accessible to inmates and answer questions.
  • Serve as a Grievance Committee member.

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: NONE

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: NONE

Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: An associate's degree with two years of current or prior military experience will substitute for the required bachelor's degree. Prior military experience will only substitute if the individual received an honorable discharge, discharge under honorable conditions, or a general discharge.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): NONE

Working Conditions
Work is typically performed in an office setting within a correctional institution.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
