Accounting Technician, General Ledger NF-2

The Mission of the Business and Support Services Division (MR) is “Investing in Marines for duty, home and self.” We provide policy and resources to support commanders in executing business services and programs aboard Marine Corps installations worldwide, as well as back- office support to the Marine and Family Division and Marine Corps Community Services (MCCS). MCCS is a comprehensive set of programs that support and enhance the operational readiness, war fighting capabilities, and life quality of Marines, their families, retirees and civilians. MCCS delivers goods and services, including management of retail operations, at over 2,250 facilities with a staff of more than 12,000 employees worldwide.

To help fulfill our vision, to be “the iconic business force of the armed forces,” we are seeking experienced, innovative, creative, and energetic professionals to support the Process Leadership Teams for General Ledger (“GL”) within the Finance & Accounting Shared Services Center (SSC) operation, a component of the Global Business Services (GBS) operation.

This position is permanently located in Kansas City, Missouri.

JOB SUMMARY

The GL Accounting Technician performs a variety of accounting duties pertaining to the preparation and maintenance of journals, subsidiary ledgers, schedules, and period end closing entries. Receives, analyzes, processes and classifies accounting documents. Reviews documents for validity, budget and expenditure limitation, completeness and correctness of accounting data. Accurately records data into an automated accounting system. Reconciles subsidiary accounts with the general ledger on a monthly basis using double entry accounting procedures. Maintains required records and ledgers, prepares month-end accounting documents and financial reports, etc.
 
Provides World Class Customer Service with an emphasis on customer centricity, professionalism and courtesy. Assists customers and communicates in a professional manner by investigating issues, conflicts and problems to provide resolution in a timely manner. Alerts the higher-level supervisor, or proper point of contact for help when problems arise. Adheres to safety regulations and standards. Promptly reports any observed workplace hazards, and any injury, occupational illness, and/or property damage resulting from workplace mishaps to the immediate supervisor. Adheres to established standards of actively supporting the principles of the EEO program and prevention of sexual harassment.
 
Performs other related duties as assigned. This is a white-collar position where occasional lifting (up to 20 lbs.) may be required. The ability to work in an assigned shift with varying hours. Assists other departments as assigned.
  
This position is designated as Mission Essential, and deemed necessary to ensure business continuity during contingency operations, natural disasters, extreme weather situations or other emergency situations to include closure of the facility. These mission essential functions are existing functions that enable the Global Business Services to continue to provide necessary, vital services during time of need and require civilian employees to telework in order to support the mission.

QUALIFICATIONS

A minimum of one year of experience, which demonstrates proficiency in accounting clerical methods and techniques, applicable to generally accepted accounting principles. Ability to acquire and apply a knowledge of the principles, policies and operating details of the accounting system and knowledge of accounting procedures and general accounting office operation. Knowledge of office practices and procedures relating to the processing and recording of transactions and accounting information. Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-energy environment. Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel, is desired.
