Accounting Technician - Payroll NF2 (FLEX)

The Mission of the Business and Support Services Division (MR) is “Investing in Marines for duty, home and self.” We provide policy and resources to support commanders in executing business services and programs aboard Marine Corps installations worldwide, as well as back- office support to the Marine and Family Division and Marine Corps Community Services (MCCS). MCCS is a comprehensive set of programs that support and enhance the operational readiness, war fighting capabilities, and life quality of Marines, their families, retirees and civilians. MCCS delivers goods and services, including management of retail operations, at over 2,250 facilities with a staff of more than 12,000 employees worldwide.

To help fulfill our vision, to be “the iconic business force of the armed forces,” we are seeking experienced, innovative, creative, and energetic team members to be part of the payroll processing team within the Finance & Accounting Shared Services Center (SSC) operation, a component of the Global Business Services (GBS) operation.

This position is permanently located in Kansas City, Missouri.


SUMMARY OF DUTIES:  Performs the full range of payroll duties which includes the following: setting up and changing employees accounts to reflect pay changes resulting from personnel actions, deductions or temporary changes affecting one or a few pay periods; auditing authorization documents for completeness, accuracy and computing bi-weekly taxes, annual statements of earnings, and deductions, maintaining control log on commission payments, etc.

May use various input documents and a wider variety of coding structures to process many different types of employees. Processes groups of accounts requiring regular application of different bodies of primary and special legislative, regulative, precedent pay provisions; interrelationships of a variety of types of pay entitlement to both regular and irregular working hours, applicable differentials, premium pay, overtime compensation, deductions, etc.

May also perform a variety of accounting clerical duties pertaining to the preparation and maintenance of journals, subsidiary ledgers, and various accounting transactions. Maintain required records and ledgers, prepares month-end accounting documents and financial reports, etc., reviews claims for advance payments, letters of credit and expenditure reports. Verifies daily sales summaries and daily cash reports.

Assists other Shared Service Centers departments as assigned.

Provides World Class Customer Service with an emphasis on courtesy. Assists customers and communicates positively in a friendly manner. Takes action to solve problems quickly. Alerts the higher-level supervisor, or proper point of contact for help when problems arise. Adheres to safety regulations and standards. Promptly reports any observed workplace hazards, and any injury, occupational illness, and/or property damage resulting from workplace mishaps to the immediate supervisor. Adheres to established standards of actively supporting the principles of the EEO program and prevention of sexual harassment.

Performs other related duties as assigned. This is a white-collar position where occasional lifting up to 20 lbs may be required.

This position is designated as Mission Essential, and deemed necessary to ensure business continuity during contingency operations, natural disasters, extreme weather situations or other emergency situations to include closure of the facility. These mission essential functions are existing functions that enable the Global Business Services to continue to provide necessary, vital services during time of need and require civilian employees to telework in order to support the mission.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A minimum of one year of experience, which demonstrates proficiency in payroll and accounting clerical methods and techniques. Knowledge of payroll rules, regulations, procedures, programs, and systems requirements. Must have the ability to make rapid and accurate mathematical calculations. Must have skills to operate a personal computer and must be proficient in Microsoft Office suites, especially Excel. Knowledge of business mathematics is required. Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-energy environment.
