The State of New Hampshire, Department of Transportation, Bureau of Transportation Systems Management and Operations, has a vacancy for a part time Telecommunications Technician I.
 
SUMMARY: To perform technical work concerned with equipping, maintaining, and repairing radio and telecommunications equipment, Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) field devices, and other technology associated with the statewide Transportation Management Center (TMC).
 
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  •  Installs, tests and repairs equipment related to the statewide highway radio network, ITS devices and aeronautics electronic navigation aids. ITS devices include, but are not limited to, such items as Road Weather Information Systems (RWIS), Changeable Message Signs (CMS), and traffic data collection devices.
  • Operates a variety of testing equipment for the purpose of troubleshooting new and obsolete communication equipment used throughout the state.
  • Participates in the evaluation and selection of various highway communication technologies through the preparation of specifications and subsequent testing and acceptance of procured equipment.
  • Works with other federal and state agencies, municipalities, and others in the installation and maintenance of highway and aeronautics related technology.
  • Maintains asset management records related to the performance, reliability, and maintenance of the technology described above to be used for developing short and long budget strategies.
  • Maintains a stock inventory of components required for timely repair of DOT field technology.

 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Associate's degree in radio engineering, communications, or electronics from a recognized institute of higher education OR high school diploma plus apprenticeship in an electronics or communications field.
Experience: 5 years of experience in the construction, skilled repair or vehicle installation, and operation of radio transmitters, communications and/or auxiliary equipment.
License/Certification: Applicant must possess a valid driver’s license. The applicant’s Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) must meet the minimum standards as established by the hiring agency.
 
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Offers of employment are conditional upon receipt of a negative result on a pre-placement urinalysis controlled substance test.
  • Must participate in controlled substance and alcohol testing program, which includes random, reasonable cause, return to duty and follow-up testing.
  • Applicants are subject to a New Hampshire criminal record background check.
  • Must be able to work nights, weekends and holiday as needed.
  • Must be available to work extended hours during transportation events and/or emergencies as needed.
  • Must be available for call-back as needed.
  • All accountabilities must be performed in accordance with State and Department rules and policies, including risk management, safety and environmental standards, regulations and administrative orders.
