DEPARTMENT: Topeka General Office or Kansas City Headquarters

LOCATION: Topeka, Kansas

Kansas City, Missouri

PAY RANGE: $19.00 - $23.00 / Hour

 

Internship for Summer 2027

 

Scheduled Work Hours: Monday - Friday, flexible hours between 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

As an intern, you'll work alongside team members and contribute ideas, skills and talent to projects. We know that internships and careers are about more than work. We provide multiple intern events throughout the summer to burn some extra energy, including volunteer events, power plant tours, lunch and learns and more.

 

Corporate Communications Intern Description:

Assist Corporate Communications team members with message and campaign development and execution for internal and external audiences, with primary emphasis on internal communications. May support the creation of multimedia communications, including video production, editing, and distribution as well as be responsible for performing routine administrative functions.

 

Job tasks include but not limited to:

  • Support the development and execution of communication campaigns and content that promote company initiatives, programs, and business objectives.
  • Assist in the management of special communications and/or special events through the development of written or visual pieces for company publications, news media kits, fact sheets, letters, speeches and speaking points.

 

Education and Experience Requirements:

Upper-class undergraduate student in good standing with the School of Business, Journalism or Communications preferred. Public Relations or Strategic Communications emphasis is preferred. 

 

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Required:

  • Effective oral and written communication skills 
  • Ability to work effectively with others in a team environment. 
  • Analytical thinking, curiosity, creative problem solving, and sound reasoning. 
  • Social media & marketing aptitude.
  • Ability to work flexible schedule – some evening and weekend work required.
  • High ethical standards and the ability to work independently.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and tasks at the same time.
  • Demonstrated initiative, dependability, and professionalism, with the ability to collaborate effectively, manage time well, and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Ability to present a professional image to obtain the confidence, trust and cooperation of colleagues. 

 

Working Conditions:

Normal office working conditions. Ability to meet strict deadlines and work well under pressure. Must have excellent work record including good attendance. Must possess a valid driver’s license.
