About this Position
Lane County Public Works is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Engineering Technician to join our Engineering & Construction Services Division. This position offers a dynamic blend of field and office work, supporting a wide range of transportation and infrastructure projects that directly impact our community.
In this role, you will perform field inspections, assist with pavement evaluations, compute quantities, and support the preparation and coordination of project documentation and communications. You’ll also collaborate with survey and construction materials testing teams, gaining hands-on experience across multiple aspects of engineering and construction services.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build or grow a career in public works, engineering, or construction. The position offers a clear pathway for advancement to a Technical Specialist 2 level after successfully completing a one-year probationary period, demonstrating required competencies, and obtaining four (4) ODOT certifications related to inspections.
We’re looking for someone who is curious, dependable, and eager to learn—someone who enjoys problem-solving, working both independently and as part of a team, and contributing to projects that serve the public.
About the Division
The Engineering & Construction Services Division responsibilities include planning, designing and constructing safe and efficient transportation systems for Lane County. The Division also provides high quality and comprehensive engineering and construction services to other County Departments and external public agency clients that manage, maintain, and plan public improvement programs and projects. Our mission is to provide these important services for the benefit of citizens, businesses, industries, and visitors to Lane County.
Schedule: Monday - Friday; 7:00am - 3:30pm. Overtime may be required per operational needs.
NOTE: Position will work substantial overtime during the June - October construction season.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Engineering Technician 1 Education and Experience:
- Contributing Level: 0-2 years of related experience; or having an associate's degree or two-year technical certificate.
Engineering Technician 2 Education and Experience:
- Associate's degree or two-year technical certificate.
- Journey Level: 2-5 years of progressively responsible experience related to area of assignment.
- Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
Special Requirements:
- Valid Oregon Driver's License
