Working Hours

This job opening will be used to fill OCT positions across FBI Field Offices. Please select your location preference(s) based off the Field Office's Headquarters City location. Due to the fluidity of vacancies, there is no guarantee which Field Offices will have openings within the time frame of this announcement. As vacancies become available, hiring managers with a vacancy will receive a list of eligible applicants for their location. Applicants may be contacted directly by the Division if/when there is a vacancy. This job opening will be available quarterly during Fiscal Year 2026.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

Most work is sedentary, but the job does require the ability to move around the office and lift and carry light items such as office files and boxes, books, copier paper, etc. Periods of high stress occur during a crisis. 

WORK ENVIRONMENT 

The environment involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions. The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated. Some work may require the use of protective biological hoods, gloves, and specially fitted masks because of high risks of potential exposure to biological contaminates. The incumbent of this position may be required to work all shifts based on the needs of the office.

MAJOR DUTIES 

  • Conducts complicated searches on multiple databases and systems to locate data and analyze information.
  • Determines the significance, validity, and reliability of data and produces written reports for use within the FBI.
  • Utilizes the appropriate methods and techniques to handle difficult conversations telephonically and face to face with the public.
  • Prioritizes all incoming emergency and non-emergency communications identifying the appropriate level of response, determining other critical information, and notifying respondents accordingly.
  • Maintains constant communication with the on-scene point of contact for an emergency for the duration of the event or until authority is transferred to the appropriate officials.
  • Performs crisis intervention with distraught emergency callers during high-risk situations until appropriate emergency field units arrive on scene.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EVALUATIONS

Specialized Experience (SE) 

GS-7: Applicant must possess at least one (1) year of SE equivalent to the GS-6 grade level. SE is defined as follows:

  • Evaluated the significance, validity, and reliability of data for inclusion in reports.
  • Analyzed, evaluated, and disseminated information.
  • Orally communicated with customers to gather pertinent information and provide guidance on emergency and non-emergency situations.
  • Maintained contact with internal staff and outside entities to obtain, verify, and convey information.

GS-8: Applicant must possess at least one (1) year of SE equivalent to the GS-7 grade level. SE is defined as follows:

  • Evaluated the significance, validity, and reliability of data for inclusion in detailed written reports. 
  • Analyzed, evaluated, and disseminated information pertaining to emergencies. 
  • Orally communicated with customers to gather pertinent information and provide guidance on emergency and non-emergency situations. 
  • Collaborated with local, state, and/or federal law enforcement agencies in order to ensure an appropriate response to emergency situations. 

Education

All degrees must be from an accredited college or university. Education may be substituted for specialized experience as follows:

GS-7: Applicant must have a bachelor’s degree with superior academic achievement or one (1) full year of graduate level education.  Superior academic achievement is the completion of all the requirements of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, which is based on (1) class standing, (2) grade-point average of 3.0 or higher as recorded on an official transcript, or as based on courses completed during the final two years of the curriculum, or (3) honor society membership.

GS-8: Education may not be substituted for specialized experience at this grade level. 

Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the above requirements provided you can show foreign education is comparable to that received in an accredited educational institution in the United States.
