Geologic Intern

Contango Ore is seeking a motivated and adaptable Geologic Intern for the summer field season. This Fairbanks-based position will support our geologic logging programs, field campaigns, and data management systems across multiple company properties. Interns will work closely with Contango’s exploration geologists and partners, contributing directly to active drilling and evaluation programs.

This is an excellent opportunity to apply academic training to real-world mineral exploration while developing practical skills in core logging, field geology, and geologic databases.

Geology & Core Logging

  • Assist with geological core logging, including lithology, alteration, structure, and mineralization descriptions.
  • Complete routine core yard tasks such as core handling, sample collection, organization, and photography.
  • Support geologic mapping, soil/rock sampling, and ground-truthing during field campaigns.

Data Management & Technical Support

  • Enter, validate, and maintain geologic and assay data within company databases.
  • Assist with generating figures, maps, and cross-sections using GIS tools (ArcGIS or QGIS).
  • Help maintain orderly physical and digital geologic records to support QA/QC workflows.

Field Work Across Properties

  • Travel to additional Contango Ore project areas to assist with field programs.
  • Support camp or site logistics, equipment setup, and general exploration operations.
  • Participate in site safety meetings and contribute to maintaining a safe, compliant work environment.

General Duties

  • Provide technical and operational support to geologists and drilling crews.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned to support ongoing exploration and development work.
  • Represent Contango’s values of safety, respect, teamwork, and responsible resource development.

Qualifications

Required

  • Enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program in Geology, Geological Engineering, Earth Sciences, or related field.
  • Ability to work outdoors in Alaska’s variable weather and remote environments.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and basic data entry.
  • Valid driver's license.

Preferred

  • Field experience through field camp, prior internships, or research projects.
  • Familiarity with mineral identification and core logging fundamentals.
  • Experience with GIS (ArcGIS or QGIS).
  • Exposure to geologic databases (acQuire, MX Deposit, Geosoft, etc.)—helpful but not required.

Work Environment

  • Primary base in Fairbanks with rotational or periodic travel to project sites.
  • Mix of office, core logging facility, and remote field settings.
  • Extended workdays (10–12 hours) may occur during active drilling or sampling campaigns.
  • Per diem and/or housing support provided for field rotations as applicable.
